Although, I am not disputing that all of the inductees do belong in the "Country Music Hall of Fame", but I still believe this is an example of just how conservative and narrow-minded the Nashville Country Music Establishment is, and how far behind the times they are.Early Rock & Roll pioneers like Elvis Presley was not inducted until' 1998, & The Everly Brothers were not inducted until' 2001. Roy Orbison & Carl Perkins still haven't been inducted yet.Glen Campbell wasn't inducted til' 2005. Kris Kristofferson wasn't indicted til' 2004, and would you believe this, Waylon Jennings was not inducted til' 2001. I guess the "Outlaws" were too heavy for Nashville. Charley Pride is the only African-American member. Apparently, the "CMHF" is forgetting that Ray Charles had quite a few successful Country & Western albums, and that Chuck Berry started out playing country. I would also like to see "Country-Rock" pioneers like, the Eagles(They did finally recieve an award from "Country Music Television in 2008.), Linda Ronstadt(had much airplay on Country radio in the seventies),The Byrds(recorded an album of traditional country songs in 1968),Bob Dylan (Is there any genre that Dylan did not influence?), Poco (They sounded pretty country to me!), and Gram Parsons. I would also like to see "Soutern Rock" bands like Lynard Skynard, The Outlaws(Some of the former members actually are with successful country bands now!), .38 Special, and the Ozark Mountain Daredevils.

Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum

Established 1967 (original building)
2001 (current building)
Location Nashville, Tennessee
Type Hall of fame
Website http://www.countrymusichalloffame.com
The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is located at 222 Fifth Avenue South in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. Its mission is to identify and preserve the evolving history and traditions of country music and to educate its audiences. Functioning as a local history museum and as an international arts organization, the CMF serves visiting and non-visiting audiences including fans, students, scholars, members of the music industry, and the general public - in the Nashville area, the nation, and world.

History and first museum
In 1961, the CMA announced the creation of the Country Music Hall of Fame. The first three inductees, Jimmie Rodgers, Fred Rose and Hank Williams, were announced at a CMA banquet in November. Bronze plaques, with the facial likeness and a thumbnail biography of each new member, were cast in bas relief. They were unveiled on the Grand Ole Opry by Ernest Tubb. These plaques, and those for subsequent Hall of Fame inductees, were displayed in the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville until 1967.

In 1963, the CMA announced that a Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum was to be built on Music Row in Nashville. In that same year, Tennessee chartered the Country Music Foundation (CMF) as a nonprofit, educational organization to operate the museum.

Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum logoThe original Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum opened on Music Row (Music Square East and Division Street) on April 1, 1967. Operations of the museum came to include educational programs, the CMF Press and CMF Records, the Country Music Foundation Library (1968), and the historic sites RCA Studio B (1977) and Hatch Show Print (1986). The Music Row location of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum was closed December 31, 2000. The building was later razed and a private parking lot for employees of music licensing firm BMI now occupies the site. Before they went on to become major stars in the country music recording industry, Kathy Mattea and Trisha Yearwood worked as tour guides at the Music Row museum.

A lot more liberal than both the Country Music & Rock and Roll Hall of Fames, the "Rockabilly Hall of Fame", honors many people who are less known, and some not in either the "Country" or "Rock & Roll" hall of fames, such as the Stray Cats and Link Wray. Many artist like Elvis Presley, the Everly Brothers, and Johnny Cash are in all three. I am actually surprised that Chris Issac is not in this one yet. I am surprised that Johnny Rivers is missing as well. I am also shocked that Bobby Fuller, who did the original version of "I Fought the Law" is not a member either! Where is Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe? It is cool that Buck Owens is a member, as the R&R hall hasn't inducted him yet(he is a member of the "CMFH"). It is refreshing to see many African-American artist, such as Little Richard & Bo Didley, but where is Chuck Berry? I also believe that, if not the Beatles as group, at least Ringo deserves to be here.

The Rockabilly Hall of Fame was established on March 21, 1997 to present early rock and roll history and information relative to the artists and personalities involved in this pioneering American music genre.

Headquartered in a former recording studio in Burns,Tennessee near Nashville, the first induction certificate was issued on November 16th, 1997 for singer Gene Vincent. The creation of Bob Timmers, the not-for-profit entity maintains a website that is supported in part by the fans and artists of the music it represents.

Among those recognized by the Rockabilly Hall of Fame are pioneer singers, songwriters, disc jockeys and promoter/producers such as Sun Records owner Sam Phillips.

The Rockabilly Hall of Fame has been recognized by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. [1]

Johnny Horton: The Man Behind the Music
April 21, 2005 by AnnieM   AnnieM

The Singing Fisherman

Ask almost anyone and they know the refrain to the song "Battle of New Orleans". Most even know that Johnny Horton had an incredible hit with the song and some may recall that it was THE song during the summer of 1959. Only a few will know that Johnny Horton died the following year at the age of thirty-five or that he had many other hits to his credit.

His music has seen a resurgence in popularity over the past decade as "new" versions of rockabilly surface. Covers of his hits have charted performed by BR549, Dwight Yoakum, and many others.

The man behind the music, however, is the real story. Born in Los Angeles on April 30, 1925, Horton was the sole member of his family who was not born in Texas.

Although at the time of his birth, his father (John Horton) was working in construction, his family would follow the crops from California back to Texas for most of his childhood.

When they were at home in the Lone Star state, the Hortons lived in East Texas. Residents of the cities of Rusk, Jacksonville, Gallatin, and Maydelle may remember the family well.

Horton graduated from Gallatin High School in 1944 but was ineligble to serve in World War II because of a perforated ear drum. He attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville, TX on a basketball scholarship but he left during his first year.

He packed his bags and headed to the sunny California of his birth where he spent several years in many jobs. He worked as an extra in the Gary Cooper film "Distant Drums" and in studio mail rooms. With brother Frank he migrated to Seattle and then alone into Alaska. Although he attended three different colleges, Horton never stayed long enough to earn a degree.

Pat Boone inducted into the "Hit Parade" Hall of Fame.

Although, it may not be very hip, to think so, I believe that Pat Boone should be in either the rock or country hall of fame!
